Spring MVC and WebFlux applications are vulnerable to Path Traversal attacks when resolving static resources.

More precisely, an application can be vulnerable when all the following are true:

• The application uses Spring MVC or Spring WebFlux.
• The application serves static resources from the file system.
• The application has configured versioned resources support.
• The attacker knows about or can guess the metadata information of targeted resources.

When all the conditions above are met, an attacker can send malicious requests that can resolve files outside the configured locations.
