Stéphane Nicoll

Stéphane is an experienced software engineer and open source contributor with a strong focus on Java enterprise development, software architecture, and technical leadership. Over the years, he has contributed to and led a wide range of initiatives, including the development of critical infrastructure in logistics and geospatial systems, as well as the design of enterprise frameworks widely adopted across the industry.

Stéphane is a core contributor to the Spring Framework and Spring Boot open source projects, and previously led Spring Initializr and start.spring.io, supporting developers worldwide in getting started with Spring. As a former member of the Apache Maven PMC, he has been actively involved in open source software governance and evolution for two decades.

As a member of the Spring team, Stéphane has had the privilege of working on various aspects of Spring Boot and Spring Framework, with a focus on understanding its inner workings and collaborating with the fantastic community of contributors.

Spring Framework 5.3.19 and 5.2.21 available now

On behalf of the team and everyone who has contributed, I am pleased to announce that Spring Framework 5.3.19 and 5.2.21 are available now.

Spring Framework 5.3.19 includes 12 fixes and improvements. Spring Framework 5.2.21 includes 5 selected fixes and improvements.

In addition, Spring Framework 5.3.19 and 5.2.21 include a fix for CVE-2022-22968: Spring Framework Data Binding Rules Vulnerability and are recommended upgrades for all Spring production scenarios.

Initial AOT support in Spring Framework 6.0.0-M3

Those of you who know the Spring Native experimental project are aware that the Spring team has been working on native image support for Spring applications since 2019. After a first beta in March 2021, we shipped an extensive revision of our Spring Native efforts in December 2021.

We’ve also announced at SpringOne last year that we intend to promote this work to Spring Framework 6.0 proper in the course of 2022. Following the release of our third milestone, this blog post walks you through what has been included already and what is coming next.

Spring Framework 6.0.0-M3 and 5.3.17 available now

On behalf of the team and everyone who has contributed, I am pleased to announce that Spring Framework 6.0.0-M3 and 5.3.17 are available now.

Spring Framework 5.3.17 includes 17 fixes and improvements as well as a fix for CVE-2022-22950: Spring Expression DoS Vulnerability and is a recommended upgrade for all Spring production scenarios.

Spring Framework 6.0.0-M3 includes 33 additional fixes and improvements specific to the 6.0 branch.

This milestone brings a first batch of migration of our AOT (Ahead Of Time) efforts from Spring Native, paving the way for Native support in the wider Spring ecosystem. See the follow-up blog post
