Hi, Spring fans! It's already the 15th of July! We're closer to 2026 than we are to 2024. And time's sure flying. Like I will, tomorrow. I'll be flying to Denver for the amazing UBERCONF software show! I'll be doing a workshop and two talks, and if you're there, I hope you'll come say "hi"!
Let's get into this week's roundup, because it's a doozy!
- this is technically from more than a week ago, but Spring gRPC 0.9.0 is available now!
- In last week's A Bootiful Podcast, I talked to Spring team alumnus and API oracle Arjen Poutsma
- Spring Cloud 2024.0.2 (aka Moorgate) has been released
- An interesting article with a bold claim: Cron Jobs Are Dead: How I Used Temporal to Future-Proof My Spring Boot App. I haven't played too much with Temporal, but it looks like its solving an interesting problem - workflow orchestration - in an interesting way, and offers a good Spring Boot integration.
- I did a talk for Jetbrains with IntelliJ IDEA lead Aleksey Stukalov looking at a lot of the amazing new features in IntelliJ IDEA
- did you see Spring Boot lead Phil Webb's amazing talk, lessons from 12 years of Spring Boot
- This is a nice look at the new Spring Boot 4 release (coming in November!)
- the amazing
datasource-proxy
project - which makes it trivial to create adapters around JDBC code - has a new release! .
- Eeenteresting! The CEO of Akka, the new name for the company formerly known as Lightbend, which is the new name for the company formerly known as Typesafe, has just announced a new agentic AI framework and its integration with Spring Boot.
- Finally! Tired of those long Maven builds, especially when doing GraalVM native image compilations? Want some good music? Well, I certainly do! And the community did not disappoint! Richard Fichtner developed the Music Maven Plugin, which plays music while your build is running! Amazing. But wouldn't it be great if it could also play music from Spotify? Mohammed Aboullaite, who works at Spotify, sent a PR! And now it can!
