Stéphane Nicoll

Stéphane is an experienced software engineer and open source contributor with a strong focus on Java enterprise development, software architecture, and technical leadership. Over the years, he has contributed to and led a wide range of initiatives, including the development of critical infrastructure in logistics and geospatial systems, as well as the design of enterprise frameworks widely adopted across the industry.

Stéphane is a core contributor to the Spring Framework and Spring Boot open source projects, and previously led Spring Initializr and start.spring.io, supporting developers worldwide in getting started with Spring. As a former member of the Apache Maven PMC, he has been actively involved in open source software governance and evolution for two decades.

As a member of the Spring team, Stéphane has had the privilege of working on various aspects of Spring Boot and Spring Framework, with a focus on understanding its inner workings and collaborating with the fantastic community of contributors.

Spring Framework 5.2.6, 5.1.15, 5.0.17, and 4.3.27 available now

On behalf of the team and everyone who has contributed, I am pleased to announce a full round of Spring Framework releases.

Spring Framework 5.2.6 includes 46 fixes and improvements. Spring Framework 5.1.15 includes 16 selected fixes and improvements.

Maintenance releases for 5.0.x (5.0.17) and 4.3.x (4.3.27) with 12 selected fixes and improvements and 5 selected fixes and improvements respectively are also available today.

As usual, we'll follow up shortly with corresponding Spring Boot releases (2.2.7 and 2.1.14) as well as a release candidate for Spring Boot 2.3!

Spring Framework 5.2.4 and 5.1.14 available now

On behalf of the team and everyone who has contributed, I am pleased to announce that Spring Framework 5.2.4 and 5.1.14 are available now.

The fourth maintenance release of the 5.2 line includes over 60 fixes and improvements. Spring Framework 5.1.14 includes 14 selected fixes and improvements.

As usual, we'll follow up shortly with corresponding Spring Boot releases (2.2.5 and 2.1.13).

Spring Boot 2.3.0.M2 available now

On behalf of the team and everyone that contributed, I am pleased to announce that the second milestone of Spring Boot 2.3 has been released and is available from our milestone repository.

This release closes 120 issues and pull requests. Thanks to all those who have contributed with issue reports and pull requests.

Highlights of this milestone include:

  • Improvement of our Docker image support
  • Upgrade to MongoDB 4 (still in beta)
  • Support of wildcard locations for configuration files
  • Numerous dependency upgrades

Spring Boot 2.2.4 released

This release includes 6 bug fixes, documentation improvements, and dependency upgrades and was released shortly after Spring Boot 2.2.3 to work around a dependency resolution problem with Gradle 5.3 to 5.6.
